Best Market In Astoria To Close, Transform Into Lidl Supermarket

Astoria's Best Market is due to close within the next three weeks to allow renovation work to begin, a Lidl spokesperson said.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — The Best Market in Astoria is closing and being remodeled into a Lidl supermarket, the company announced.

Best Market, which is on 37th Street just north of 20th Avenue, is due to close within the next three weeks to allow renovation work to start, according to Lidl spokesperson Chandler Ebeier.

Lidl is offering jobs to all Best Market employees as part of the transition, the spokesperson said.

The supermarket is slated to reopen as Lidl early next year.

Lidl purchased the Best Market chain in 2018, according to Long Island Business News.

Several Best Market locations on Long Island, including in East Meadow and Patchogue, are slated to reopen as Lidl supermarkets later this summer.

The German discount supermarket chain has more than 11,000 stores across 32 countries, including more than 100 stores in nine states along the East Coast.
