LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS -- A wannabe handyman was caught on tape stealing thousands of dollars in tools from a Long Island City construction site, police said.
The perp broke into a mixed-use complex being built up at 40-05 Crescent St. on Aug. 28 at about 3:30 a.m., cops said. Surveillance video shows him wandering the site with a backpack before hauling out tools and supplies worth an estimated $3,700.
The building is slated to house 32 apartments over five stories, along with 11,415 square feet of manufacturing space on the first two floors, city records show. Developers filed plans to erect the 36,433-square-foot space in September 2014, which the city's Department of Buildings approved the following year.
