ASTORIA/LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — It will cost drivers up to 67-cents more to drive between Queens and Manhattan on tolled crossings starting this Sunday.

The 7% toll hikes, which are part of the MTA’s efforts to raise profits for the city’s transportation system amid multibillion-dollar losses during the pandemic, apply to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel in Long Island City and the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge in Astoria.

Drivers without E-ZPass will be charged $10.17 per trip, up from $9.50, whereas most New York E-ZPass drivers will be charged $6.55, up from $6.12.

But those who don’t have their E-ZPass properly mounted on their windshield will be charged a mid-tier rate of $8.36, which accounts for the processing costs of the MTA matching drivers plates with their E-ZPass account, reported the NY Daily News.

Other major crossings in the city are also subject to this increase, including the Bronx-Whitestone, Throgs Neck, and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridges and the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel.

The Cross Bay and Marine Parkway bridges in Queens, which connect the Rockaways to Jamaica and South Brooklyn, respectively, will also see toll increases from $2.29 to $2.45 for E-ZPass users, and $4.75 to $5.09 for everyone else. E-ZPass users with an out-of-place tag will now pay a mid-tier rate of $3.77.

For now, these toll increases are in lieu of a proposed fare hike on public transportation, which MTA officials postponed earlier this year.
