First Powerhouse Gym Opens In Long Island City
The brand new 10,000-square-foot fitness center opened inside the Apple Building on Northern Boulevard.
LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS -- Calling all fitness junkies: A new gym has muscled its way into Long Island City.
Global fitness brand Powerhouse Gym opened its first location in the Queens neighborhood on Monday inside the Apple Building, announced landlord Alma Realty.
The 10,000-square-foot gym's grand opening on the ground floor of the eight-story commercial building at 30-30 Northern Boulevard comes months after Powerhouse signed a 10-year lease with Alma Realty for the space in August, said Efstathios Valiotis, principal of the Queens-based realty firm.

"Powerhouse Gym is such an exciting addition to this community and a vital amenity for our tenants and people throughout the area," Valiotis said. "We welcome them and look forward to serving the neighborhood for years to come."
Since launching more than 40 years ago, Powerhouse has racked up 300 licensed locations in 39 states and expanded into 17 different countries, according to its website. The Long Island City gym is the third in New York City to bear the brand's signature muscleman logo, behind locations in Flushing and Staten Island.

The brand's newest gym will provide 20 jobs in the neighborhood, Valitos said. Powerhouse celebrated its opening by offering half-off memberships to the first 500 customers.
Powerhouse is the latest health-conscious addition to the 213,000-square-foot Apple Building, which opened last year to provide space for a diverse range of offices in high-tech, creative and media industries. The building was built with bike racks to encourage employees to cycle to work, Valitos said.
“As we have done throughout our existence, Alma Realty is betting on the future of Queens and of a neighborhood where we live and work,” he said.
