Group Hosts First Drive-In Movie Night At Astoria Park

"Grease" will play on the big screen at the park this Friday for Central Astoria Local Development Coalition's first drive-in movie night.

ASTORIA, QUEENS -- Get ready to be "stranded at the drive-in" with Danny and Sandy in Astoria.

The "Grease" characters will appear on the big screen at Astoria Park this Friday for the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition's first-ever drive-in movie night, organizers said.

Starting at sunset - aka 8:30 p.m. - on June 15, the local group will showcase "Grease" in the the park's parking lot at Hoyt Avenue and 19th Street. The iconic 1978 flick follows the summer love story of greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and wholesome exchange student Sandy Olss0n (Olivia Newton-John).

Central Astoria LDC partnered with New York State Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to offer the free event, according to the group's website.

Doors open at 6:30 for the event, and those who don't have a car are welcome to set up their blankets and chairs under the stars in a designated spot. Seating is first come, first serve.
