Ha's Chinese Eatery In Astoria Closes Suddenly: Reports
The restaurant announced its closure on its website and Instagram without explanation just two months after it opened, Eater first reported.

ASTORIA, QUEENS -- Ha's Chinese Bar & Eatery has suddenly closed its doors just two months after its long awaited debut in Astoria.
The vegetarian Chinese eatery posted to its website and Instagram bio that it had been closed since Feb. 12 but offered no reason for the sudden shuttering, Eater first reported.
The restaurant enjoyed a successful opening just two months ago on Dec. 5, largely because of its owners. Ben Sandler and Jennifer Lim ran a wildly popular grilled cheese spot called The Queens Kickshaw. The pair closed that eatery last August and revamped its space on 40-17 Broadway into Ha's Chinese, Eater reported.

Ha's Chinese recruited chef Eric Simpson - who's cooked for over a decade in NYC at the likes of Corton, The Elm and Lilia - to serve up a Sichuan-inspired vegetarian menu, according to its website. The eatery offered an array of hot and cold plates such as dumplings, scallion pancakes, rice and noodle dishes and several tofu options. It also served an extensive alcohol menu of beers, wines, ciders, sake and 12 signature cocktails.
Upon reading about its closure online, several devastated customers flooded eatery's most recent Instagram photo asking why it had closed.

"Planned to stop by on Tuesday and saw that you closed! What happened?!" One commenter asked.
Another simply wrote, "Say it ain't so!"
Sandler confirmed the restaurant's shuttering to Patch but declined to comment on why.
"It's way more complex," he said. "I don't want to have it whittled down to sound bites."
