Hunter's Point Middle School Gets $15K Arts Grant

Hunter's Point Community Middle School will boost its arts program thanks to a new $15,000 grant from the state.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Hunter's Point Community Middle School will boost its arts program thanks to a new $15,000 grant.

The grant, announced by State Sen. Michael Gianaris at the middle school's graduation Tuesday, comes from this year's state budget.

"Arts enrich the lives of students and provide a gateway to the future," Gianaris said. "Arts education encourages creativity and brings skills from across disciplines into the classroom."

The school's arts program includes music, the visual arts and theater. Features include bi-annual art shows, a competition band program and spring musical theater productions.

Hunter’s Point Community Middle School opened in 2013 and now serves 450 students a year, according to principal Sarah Goodman.
