Man Found Dead In East River Off The Shore Of LIC, Police Say

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — The police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who was found dead in the East River over two weeks ago.

On the morning of Wednesday May 26, around 8:05 a.m., police said that someone called 911 and reported that there was a body floating in the East River at Center Boulevard and 56th Avenue, near the Hunter's Point South Park Extension in Long Island City.

The NYPD Harbor Unit brought the unidentified man ashore, where he was pronounced dead by EMS.

Over two weeks later police said that the man still hasn't been identified, but they included a sketch of his face.

The cops also described the man as having a small scar near his right ankle, and no tattoos. He was wearing a brown long-sleeve t-shirt, camouflage pants, and black sneakers at the time of his death, according to police.

When the NYPD found him he had some coins in his pocket, including two 50-cent coins and a sobriety coin that says "Freedom" and "Growth" on one side, and is emblazoned with a butterfly design on the other side.

An investigation is still ongoing and the medical examiner will determine a cause of death, police said on Monday.
