Man Stabbed On Subway Train Heading Into LIC Station, Says Police

On Wednesday, a man was stabbed on a subway train heading into the same LIC station where an Asian man was pushed onto the tracks last week.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A man was stabbed on a subway train on Wednesday afternoon, while heading into the same Long Island City station where an Asian man was pushed onto the tracks last week.

At around 2:34 p.m. on Wednesday, two men got into a fight on a Manhattan bound “F” train. As the train approached the 21st Street Queensbridge station, the 34-year-old assailant stabbed the other man, 27, in the chest with a knife, according to the NYPD

Police, who don’t know what the fight was about, said that the victim was taken from the station to Elmhurst Hospital, where his wounds were deemed non-life threatening.

As of Thursday, the NYPD have charged Ramel Bain of Brooklyn for assault and weapon possession in connection to the stabbing.

This incident comes a week after an Asian man was pushed onto the F train tracks in front of oncoming traffic — an unprovoked attack that is being investigated as another anti-Asian hate crime.

Both of these attacks also coincide with ongoing debates about subway safety, following several high-profile subway assaults.

After Governor Andrew Cuomo and some MTA officials called on the mayor and the NYPD to put more cops on the subway, citing riders' concerns about safety, the mayor acquiesced and promised to add 250 more NYPD officers to the trains — despite the fact that major crimes are actually down 59 percent in the subways.
