WOODSIDE, QUEENS — A 23-year-old mother was taken into police custody on Thursday after cops found twin 46-day-old babies dead inside her apartment at the Woodside Houses, reported NBC News.
After receiving a concerned 911 call from a family member about the babies' whereabouts, the cops conducted a wellness check just after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at an apartment at 31-76 51 Street, where they found the two unconscious newborns — one of whom, a boy identified as Dallis Bentley, was found in a crib with apparent stab wounds, reported NBC News.

Both babies, who according to NBC news were just over 6 weeks old, were pronounced dead on the scene by EMS, said the police.
Their mother was taken into custody by police, but as of Thursday night she had not been criminally charged since the police were still waiting for a medical examiner's report., Sergeant Nieves told the New York Times.
A next-door neighbors told the New York Times that the mother moved into the apartment last month, and that she hears "people yelling and screaming" but "never heard children."
The Sergeant said that he did not know what the mother's "state of mind is" adding that she had "made statements" and "spontaneous utterances" when the police arrived, reported the Times.
When asked about the possibility of the mother suffering from mental illness, an officer on the scene, Keywona Llanos, told the Daily News that "mental illness is big. Please keep us in your prayers."
Police are treating the twins' death as suspicious, and collecting clues and evidence from the apartment, including a knife, reported several outlets.
As of early on Friday morning, several outlets reported that the babies' cause of death is still unknown, and a police spokesperson told Patch at 9:00 a.m. that an investigation is still ongoing.
