Protest on a Friday Afternoon

A demonstration over the arrest of a Muslim woman

On the way home yesterday, I came across a group of protesters best the info counter at Grand Central Station. They each carried picket signs supporting Marzieh Hashemi, an American-Iranian journalist and tv host.

Hashemi had been arrested in St Louis on her way to board a flight to Denver to visit family. She was given no reason, at first, but it was later revealed that she was being held as a material witness in an FBI investigation. If that sounds sketchy and indetailed, it was and that's exactly how Hashemi felt. While being detained, she was not allowed to wear her own Muslim clothes or eat Halal food. The protest addressed her harsh and discriminatory treatment.
