Queens Public Library Commemorates Black History Month Virtually

All February, the Queens Public Library is celebrating Black History Month with dozens of free virtual events and a curated reading list.

QUEENS, NY — The Queens Public Library is commemorating Black History Month with dozens of free virtual events and a curated list of more than a hundred books by African American authors.

Throughout February, the library system will celebrate Black History Month with programming on equity in health care, lectures on such notable figures as the abolitionist and writer Frederick Douglass and the astronomer and mathematician Benjamin Banneker, a special storytime event and more.

Highlights include the Black Health and Healing Summit this Friday and Saturday, which will bring together medical experts, athletes and entertainers to discuss racial disparities in health care and outcomes and share strategies on healing.

On Friday, Feb. 26, the library will host an evening with the Haitian-American writer Edwidge Danticat, author of “Breath, Eyes, Memory," an Oprah Book Club selection, and “Krik? Krak!,” a National Book Award finalist.

Queens Public Library librarians have also curated a list of 125 books by African American authors, representing a variety of genres, and a special Black History Month resources guide.
