SEE IT: Snowy Sculpture Of Hippocrates Crafted In Astoria Park
Two artists used snow to make a sculpture of Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician called the father of medicine.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — A pair of artists used the recent snowfall in Astoria Park to mold a sculpture of Hippocrates, the father of medicine.
Artists Melissa Vadakara, 27, and Marios Tzavellas, 52, told Patch they wanted their frosty depiction of the ancient Greek physician to inspire others in the COVID-19 pandemic and acknowledge the importance of health care workers in overcoming it.
While Tzavellas is a professionally-trained artist, Vadakara works in health care and is only now starting to pursue art as a full-time career.

Snow is a new medium for the artists, who are more accustomed to drawing and painting. The Hippocrates sculpture is their third so far this winter.
"I personally continue to make sculptures 'cause I think it's joyful, fun and reminds me of being a little kid filled with wonder when I see snow falling," Vadakara said.
