Streetwear Retailer Extra Butter Opens Long Island City Store

New York streetwear retailer Extra Butter's new location features a movie theater, art exhibition space and a hidden bar.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — New York streetwear retailer Extra Butter is returning to its founders' Queens roots with a new store in Long Island City.

The retailer's second location, which opened Wednesday at 22-03 Jackson Ave., offers more than just merchandise from brands such as Nike, Carhartt, Comme des Garçons and Extra Butter's own line of clothing and accessories.

There is a 12-seat movie theater, a space for art exhibits and pop-up events, a concessions stand and a hidden speakeasy-inspired bar.

To celebrate the store's opening, Extra Butter will offer exclusive sneaker and apparel drops this coming weekend, according to a news release.

“People come to Extra Butter to get best-in-class products and an experience that’s unique and memorable," said creative director Bernie Gross, who lives in Queens. "We approach the products from a storytelling perspective. Each item has a backstory and we aim to explore and communicate them to our audience."

The store's opening is a homecoming for Extra Butter co-founders Ankur and Nick Amin. The brothers got their start working at their uncle's sneaker store on Queens Boulevard in the 1980s.

“Most of us who have been with the brand since day one grew up in Queens, the world’s borough, so this is like a homecoming,” co-founder Ankur Amin said in a statement. “To now bring Extra Butter to Queens almost 40 years later is an important milestone for us.”

The retailer launched in 2007. Its first location is on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
