LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Trader Joe's is officially opening its Long Island City outpost at 8:00 a.m. next Friday.

Last month the popular grocery chain announced that it would open this summer, and its opening day is now slated for Friday, June 25, according to a report from the Long Island City Post.

Despite a false start in 2020, Trader Joe's is still planning to move into 22-43 Jackson Avenue, an 11-story, 70-unit mixed-use building that has been under construction since 2019.

The 10,000 square foot store will be emblazoned with artwork of local landmarks, like the Pepsi Cola Sign and the Pulaski Bridge, according to a post from a local Instagram account.

The post also said that the grocery store's opening day in Long Island City will begin with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, and include music and giveaways.

While Trader Joe's is ready to open next week, the store is still looking to hire workers, according to Monica Hubbell, one of the managers or “mates” at the LIC location, who told the LIC post that TJ's hopes "to offer a lot of employment to the neighborhood."

The Instagram post corroborated Hubbell's account that the LIC Trader Joe's location is still hiring, and that "more than 75 percent of the crew members" live locally.

People who are interested in applying for a job can ask someone at the Jackson Avenue location, or call the market between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at (929) 322-7576.

The store will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, with the first hour of operation on Wednesday's and Sunday's reserved for senior customers (age 60 and over) and customers with disabilities, according to the LIC Trader Joe's website.

The Long Island City store will be the second Trader Joe's location in the borough, next to their outpost in Rego Park.
