Woodside Mother Charged With Murder In Death Of Twin Babies: NYPD

A 23-year-old mother was charged with murder on Friday after cops found her twin babies dead inside her apartment at the Woodside Houses.

WOODSIDE, QUEENS — A 23-year-old mother whose twin newborns were found dead inside their apartment at the Woodside Houses last Thursday was charged with their murder on Friday, police said.

Danezja Kilpatrick was taken into NYPD custody on Thursday, after police conducting a wellness check found her six-week-old babies, Dallis and Dakota Bentley, dead in their apartment — one wrapped in a blanket under the sink, and the other in a crib with apparent stab wounds and a knife still sticking out of his head, reported the NY Daily News.

On Friday Kilpatrick was charged with their murder, according to police.

The NYPD also said she was charged for acting in a manner injurious to a child, and hit with a weapons charge.

Kilpatrick’s confession to police, which was read at her arraignment on Saturday according to the NY Daily News, revealed that she first tried to kill the twins by mixing Pine Sol into their milk, but ultimately scalded Dakota with water and stabbed Dallis’ neck with a knife.

Quanteya Kilpatrick, the young mother’s older sister, told the NY Daily News that her sister “loved” her children and “always suffered from (mental illness) but I never saw her struggle with it while the babies were there.”

AMNY reported that Kilpatrick is currently being held without bail, and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz called the case “tragic” and “heart-wrenching” adding that “this should have been a joyous time for this family, instead the babies’ relatives are mourning their deaths and the sad fact that the one person who should have been their protector and loving caregiver allegedly killed them.”

If convicted, Kilpatrick — who is expected to return to court on May 21 — faces a maximum sentence of life without parole, according to the DA.
