AMITYVILLE, NY — Amityville is hunkered down for the storm now bringing heavy rain and high winds to Long Island.

For the village, a Coastal Flood Warning is in effect from 4 p.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday, a Flood Watch is in effect from 6 p.m. until noon Wednesday, and a High Wind Warning is in effect from 6 p.m. till 6 a.m. Wednesday.

"We're a little worried, you know after Sandy we still have PTSD," Mayor Dennis Siry told Patch. "Still, this is not our first rodeo. We get streets flooding even at full-moon high tides."

In preparation, the Department of Public Works cleared storm drains over the past few days. The Amityville Fire Department checked its high-water truck Monday. "So it's good to go if needed," Siry said.

Wind gusts up to 70 mph are expected overnight. Widespread moderate coastal flooding is expected with the Wednesday morning high tide. Locally major flooding is possible along Great South Bay.
