Bay Shore, NY — On Monday January 27th, the Bay Shore girls' basketball team will be playing for a cause close to the community. The two games, the junior varsity at 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 5:45 p.m., will serve as a fundraiser for cancer research charity William's Warriors, founded by a Bay Shore family who lost their son William to brain cancer at only seven years old.

The Bay Shore basketball coaches designed shirts in honor of those fighting childhood cancers with the slogan "Fight like a kid" that are on sale, with all proceeds going to nonprofit William's Warriors, dedicated to research into medulloblastoma. This is the first year the Bay Shore team's charity game will dedicate 100% of proceeds directly to this charity, Caitlin Zowak, assistant coach, told Patch.

There will be a bake sale, raffles and gear for sale, she said. Raffles include: gift certificates to local restaurants and spas, home decor items, jewelry, toys and games; tickets for Argyle Theater, Sky Zone, Escape Room, Basketball Training Camp Westchester Knicks, Brooklyn Cyclones, the Museum of the City of New York, the Museum of Ice Cream, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, the Crayola Experience Medieval Times; and autographs from the Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, Giants, and Jets.
