Candidate Profile: Steven J. Flotteron For Suffolk Legislature

LONG ISLAND, NY - Suffolk County residents will be hitting the polls next month to elect several local representatives.
In addition to local town and village races, residents should look into who will be running to represent one of the 18 legislative districts in Suffolk County. This year, Election Day falls on Tuesday, November 5.
In anticipation of the big day, Patch asked candidates in the contested races to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.

Steven J. Flotteron, 57, of Brightwaters is running for re-election as Suffolk County Legislator for District 11, which includes all of West Islip and Brightwaters, most of Bay Shore and portions of Islip, Islip Terrace and Deer Park.
His opponent is Joe McDermott (D).

Flotteron (R) and his wife, Ellen, have two children, 22-year-old Madison and 20-year-old Morgan.
He received a Bachelor Degree in Business and was first elected to Suffolk County Legislator in 2018. Before that worked as Town of Islip Councilman from 2006 to 2017. He has also worked as an Insurance Agent and Investment Planning from 1986 to present.

Patch: The single most pressing issue facing our community is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Flotteron: The financial mismanagement, deficit spending, debt, and 7 bond downgrades from the rating companies. Multiple things need to be done. But to start voting against wasteful spending and blocking borrowing are the first steps.
P: What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
F: I have 14 years combine of board and legislature experience and 33 years of Financial Business Experience.
P: Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
F: Reducing taxes and government spending is number 1. Keeping our neighborhoods safe and protecting our water supply and the environment.
P: What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
F: My record on the public safety committee of supporting law enforcement, first responders to ensure we have a safe community. Protecting our heritage in sponsoring Italian-American Appreciation Month and Irish-Heritage Appreciation Month. Supporting women's rights for pay equality and supported the Women Veterans Advisory Board. I've been an active member of the Veterans' and Seniors' Committee fighting to insure they receive the support they deserve. I have the endorsement of the New York League of Conservation Voters because of my record of safe guarding and protecting our Environment.
P: The best advice ever shared with me was ...
F: Be humble and a good listener.
P: What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
F: I go to work each day with one thing in mind, protect the taxpayers and do whats right for the community, not the special interest.
