Gandolfo Takes Lead In 7th Assembly District Race
Republican Jarett Gandolfo and Democrat Francis Genco were both vying for the seat left open by Andrew Garbarino, who ran for Congress.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — After the unofficial votes came in on Wednesday, Jarett Gandolfo took significant lead in the race for the 7th assembly district.
Republican Gandolfo and Democratic candidate Francis Genco were both vying for the seat left open by Andrew Garbarino (R) who ran for Congress.
According to the Suffolk County Board of Elections unofficial results, Gandolfo received a total of 34,500 while Genco received 18,115 votes.

In response, Gandolfo posted the following statement on social media:
We did it! With a 17,000 vote lead, it’s safe to say that I will be representing the 7th Assembly District come January. I have so many people to thank, but I have to start with the VOTERS! It will be my honor to be your voice in Albany. Thank you for putting your faith in me – I won’t let you down!
However, the race is not over yet. The Suffolk Board of Elections will be counting absentee votes starting next week.

According to data from the board, a total of 17,530 absentee ballots were requested and 17,390 were sent in for this race. Out of those, the board received 11,871 including 5,080 Democratic votes and 3,290 Republican votes. In addition, 5,355 ballots are still outstanding.
