LONG ISLAND, NY — Up to 2 feet of snow is expected to clobber parts of Long Island Monday into Tuesday. A winter storm warning will be in effect for the entire island from midnight Sunday until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The snow should begin Sunday night and then pick up in intensity after midnight. Blizzard-like conditions, with winds gusting up to 60 mph, are possible late Monday morning and Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service says. Snow could fall at a rate of 1-3 inches an hour Monday.

Snow totals are likely to vary widely across the area with the highest amounts expected in Nassau County. Heading east, the snow could mix with rain and sleet and limit snow accumulation. A changeover to all rain is likely for the Twin Forks.
