Steven Flotteron Wins Suffolk County Legislature 11th District Republican Primary
Flotteron beat out Michael J. McElwee, the son-in-law of current legislator Thomas Barraga.

The Suffolk County Legislature's 11th District seat will not stay in the family.
Two candidates faced off in Tuesday's Republican primary election to be on the ballot in the upcoming race for the open seat, including the son-in-law of current legislator Thomas Barraga, Michael J. McElwee.
But it's current Islip Town Council member Steve Flotteron who won the nod Tuesday.

With all districts reporting, Flotteron led McElwee by a margin of 1,218-877, according to unofficial results.
Barraga is not seeking re-election due to term limits.

The 11th District includes all of West Islip and Brightwaters, most of Bay Shore and portions of Islip, Islip Terrace and Deer Park. It is bounded roughly by Southern State Parkway to the north, the Great South Bay to the south and Route 231 to the west.
