South Shore University Hospital Appoints Neurosciences Director

Krista Lim-Hing, MD, has been appointed director of the Linda and John Bohlsen Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at South Shore University Hospital (SSUH). Over the past year, Dr. Lim-Hing has served as a neurointensivist at SSUH and at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, as well as a telehealth medical intensivist at Northwell Health’s eICU.

“We are fortunate to have Dr. Lim-Hing oversee South Shore University Hospital’s state-of-the-art neurosurgical ICU, as we continue to provide the highest level of care for patients with complicated conditions such as stroke, neurotrauma, brain tumors, seizures and brain bleeds,” said David Chalif, MD, the hospital’s chair, department of neurosurgery. “Dr. Lim-Hing’s subspecialty training in neurocritical care and board-certification in psychiatry and neurology, will serve as an asset to our neurosurgical ICU team.”

Earning her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia Regents University, Dr. Lim-Hing completed her post-doctoral training, including an internship in internal medicine and a neurology residency at Thomas Jefferson University, as well as a fellowship in neurocritical care at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland. Her clinical expertise includes subarachnoid and intracerebral hemorrhage, acute stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, epilepticus, post-cardiac arrest and neuroethics.

Dr. Lim-Hing is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Neurocritical Care Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the National Neurotrauma Society. She has co-authored numerous articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, Frontiers in Neurology and Neurocritical Care. Dr. Lim-Hing has been an invited guest speaker at 20 lecture series and grand rounds, presenting on a wide variety of neurocritical care topics.

“Under Dr. Lim-Hing’s leadership, the neurocritical care team at South Shore University Hospital will serve Suffolk County by advancing the care of all patients with neurological emergencies,” said Richard Temes, MD, director, Northwell Health’s Center for Neurocritical Care. “Dr. Lim-Hing is committed to our goal for international recognition in the treatment of brain and spinal cord injury through the promotion of collaborative clinical care, innovative research, and community outreach and education.”
