My son’s first grade teacher at Fifth Avenue School in Bay Shore is amazing! I am a teacher as well so I know how to spot a good one! She consistently challenges her students. Her classroom environment is friendly and welcoming. All of her students feel loved. She is constantly going above and beyond the normal teacher role. She writes grants and created DonorsChoose projects which always get funded. She has her first graders coding to control the 4 robots that she has in her classroom. Parents are always invited in to read a book or help with holiday centers. She executes literacy collaborative ( the literacy program adopted by the district) with such perfection its no one my son is reading above grade level! And even with that, she still continues to challenge him to improve.

Congratulations to Mrs. Maher!
