Accumulating Snow Possible For Long Island Thursday

After a very mild New Year`s Day – the high hit 60 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport – Mother Nature is set to remind us that it's certainly winter. Temperatures will be back near normal on Wednesday with a high near 40 and then comes the snow.

The National Weather Service says snow is likely Thursday morning and although it shouldn't be much, there is the potential for slippery conditions on the roads during the commute. A light glaze of freezing rain is also possible as the snow transitions into rain by mid-morning.

Snowfall of about an inch is possible across a good deal of the island, the NWS says. There's about a 40 percent chance of more than an inch of accumulation.

Wednesday- Sunny, with a high near 39. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. North wind 5 to 9 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night- Snow likely, mainly after 4am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 27. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Thursday- Rain, snow, and freezing rain likely before 8am, then a chance of rain between 8am and 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Wind chill values between 25 and 35 early. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 30. West wind 3 to 8 mph.

Friday- Sunny, with a high near 46.

Friday Night- A 30 percent chance of rain after 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Saturday- Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Saturday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Sunday- Sunny, with a high near 46.
