NEW YORK — Attempts to stem the spread of the new coronavirus in New York have hit many industries hard. New York State ordered the closures of all non-essential businesses on Sunday, and the previous closures of restaurants, bars and gyms has already resulted in layoffs and underemployment across Long Island.

Some companies, however, are hiring due to the increased demands from the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to a need for healthcare workers—New York has asked retired nurses and doctors to return to battle the pandemic—an increase in grocery, shopping and delivery needs means increased employee hiring.
