East Islip Beach Closed To Bathing

The local beach was closed down due to high levels of bacteria in the water, health officials say.

EAST ISLIP, NY — East Islip Beach is closed to bathing due to the finding levels of bacteria higher than the acceptable criteria, Suffolk County health officials announced Sunday night.

In addition to the local beach, Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck was shut down to bathing as well.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
