Legislator Cilmi Honors Islip Terrace Veteran

Marine Corps Veteran Magda Resker was recognized at the first annual Women Veterans Appreciation Day in Suffolk on June 12.

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi presented a proclamation to Islip Terrace resident, Magda Resker, retired Master Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps, in recognition of her distinguished service to our country at the Suffolk County Legislature’s first annual Women Veterans Appreciation Day in Suffolk on June 12th.

MSgt. Resker served in the Marine Corps from 1984 to 2008. She currently works for Lindenhurst High School and, along with Chief Warrant Officer 4 Christine Glynn, teaches the only Marine Corps Junior ROTC program on Long Island. In addition, Master Sergeant Resker volunteers her time with several military/veteran support organizations. For over fifteen years, she has helped coordinate administrative the New York Leatherneck Scholarship Ball, the oldest and largest fundraiser for the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. She can often be found volunteering her time at Warrior Ranch Foundation helping to provide equine therapy for PTSD sufferers, as well as at the Women Marines Association. Master Sergeant Resker is married and has one daughter.

Legislator Cilmi said, “MSgt. Resker is a shining example of the best of America. I consider it a privilege to recognize her for her continued service to our nation, our local veterans and our community at large.”
