Where's the Scoop?

Rita's Italian Ices in East Islip did not reopen for the 2018 season, leaving residents wondering where they will satisfy their sweet tooth.

EAST ISLIP, NY - Rita’s Italian Ices did not reopen this season to give their residents treats such as “gelatis”, “blendinis”, or their famous Swedish Fish Italian ice. Many people in the community are confused about the status of this local business and if they will ever return in the future.

“We went to Rita’s in East Islip 3/20/2018,” said David S. from Great River on Yelp. “We read they were serving free Italian ices for first day of spring. The place was closed, no sign, lights off...kids disappointed.” Four people voted on Yelp that this review was useful.

The Rita’s Italian Ice (East Islip, NY) Facebook page has been dark since September 5th, 2017. This was their last post that went public:

Throughout the comments, people are asking why Rita’s has closed and many are curious if they will be returning next season. There are no official sources that can currently answer if they will be reappearing or not.

However, East Islip has many places where the community can satisfy their chocolate
cravings right off of Main Street. If you are looking for something similar to a "gelati", which is soft serve ice cream and Italian ice layered together, you can visit Ralph's Famous Italian Ices and ask for a "Twister".
