The Clubhouse Owner On Re-Opening: It's "Wonderful" To Be Back

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Clubhouse, a long-time steakhouse in Huntington, officially returned on Tuesday. The eatery had been closed since mid-September after it was seized by New York State due to unpaid taxes, though the restaurant's owner, Jeffrey Bies, told Patch everything was settled up with the state in late October.

Celebrating its grand re-opening with 20 percent off each check, it's back to business as usual for The Clubhouse, which has been around since 1962. In a word, Bies called it "wonderful" to be back.

"I’m disappointed to have been closed," he said.

From an outside perspective, the steakhouse's future appeared to be very up in the air. However, Bies remained confident that he would be able to work things out.

"Once we got involved with New York State Taxation and Finance, I had no doubt we’d re-open," he said.

Bies said Tuesday's return was "very, very robust" and said reservations are looking good for this week. He credited his wife, KC Bies, for helping oversee the smooth return.

There have been a few changes, though. The Clubhouse has a new chef, Chef Anthony, and a completely new kitchen. But Bies is happy with how the chef handled himself in his debut at The Clubhouse on Tuesday.

"The most important thing I noticed was that Chef Anthony feels we’re trying very hard to maintain initially what always was the Clubhouse," he said.

The steakhouse has long been a family affair for the Bies, as Jeffrey's parents, John and Geraldine, founded it decades ago. With the issues with New York State in the rear-view mirror, Bies is looking forward to a return to normalcy.

"We’re just looking forward to having a good time, a lot of fun and enjoying taking care of our clientele."

The Clubhouse is located at 320 W. Jericho Turnpike, Huntington.
