Greenlawn Firefighters Battle Raging House Fire
The fire was fed by a ruptured gas line and spread from the attached garage.

GREENLAWN, NY — Greenlawn firefighters battled a house fire on Lantern Street early Thursday.
A fire coming from the attached garage, being fed by a ruptured gas line, was causing the blaze, according to public information officer Steve Silverman. Chief Angelo Santomauro and Assistant Chief Joe Pace were the first to arrive at 12:30 a.m.
Fire engines stretched numerous lines to the back of the house and helped contain it to avoid a total loss of the home. Due to the fire's size and extremely hot temperatures, neighboring fire departments were called to help douse the flames. About 50 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with seven trucks and an ambulance. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, following direction from Santomauro.
