How to Beat the Heat in Dix Hills This Week

Stay cool at the beach, pool, ice rink and other locations.

If you didn’t know, it’s going to be scorching hot this week.

To keep residents cool, Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone wants residents to know about these options to beat the heat.

  • Lifeguards will remain on duty for an extra hour and a half at Crab Meadow, Centerport and Quentin Sammis/West Neck Beaches at least until Wednesday. Lifeguards normally go off duty at 6 p.m., after which swimming is prohibited, but they will remain on duty until 7:30 p.m.
  • The Dix Hill pool is open until 8 p.m.
  • Public skating sessions are held at the Dix Hills Ice Rink from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 3:45-5:45 p.m. Thursday and Friday, from 9 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Wednesday for adults only and from 8:15-10:15 p.m. Friday.
  • The Senior Beach House at Centerport Beach is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 12-5 p.m. on Sunday.
  • The Village Green Senior Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
