How Huntington Town Taxpayers Can Avoid Long, Cold Outdoor Wait

Property tax bills are scheduled to be mailed out in mid-December. Here is how you can pay yours quickly, safely and warmly.

HUNTINGTON, NY — With property tax bills scheduled to be mailed out to Town of Huntington residents in mid-December, residents were urged by the town to pay property taxes by mail and other alternative payment methods this year.

Long lines in the cold outdoors will be prevalent at Huntington Town Hall as the tax payment wait will be limited to three people indoors due to the coronavirus pandemic. Parking will be reserved for taxpayers.

The first half-payment will be due Jan. 10, 2021.

"Many of our residents who pay in person are elderly and in the high-risk groups for COVID-19," Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said in a news release. "We are under strict guidance from New York State."

The measures are meant to ensure safety, but Lupinacci said it will result in long lines outdoors. Residents are recommended to pay by mail, by placing their payment in an envelope for drop-off in the tax receiver's mailbox outside of Town Hall, or by phone or Internet.
