Hunting-Tony Awards Presented To Town's Top Thespians

The 11th Annual Hunting-Tony Awards were presented. Here is the Town of Huntington's list of winners.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The 11th annual Hunting-Tony Awards ceremony was held. The event celebrates the Town of Huntington's top high school thespians.

Normally, the ceremony is held in-person at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony was held via Zoom conference by Huntington councilmembers Mark Cuthbertson and Joan Cergol. It marked the second year in a row the event was hosted virtually.

"I’m so happy that we found a way to showcase the great talent we have in Huntington," Cergol said via news release. "Many of these gifted students will be future stars on Broadway! As a community, we’re richer by having these students and the arts in our midst."

The Hunting-Tonys traditionally recognize the musicals and plays put on by local high schools in the Town of Huntington, but since there were no school productions this year, students instead submitted videos of themselves performing monologues, musical numbers and dances to be evaluated by a panel of volunteer judges.

"We were not going to let the pandemic stop the Hunting-Tonys," Cuthbertson said. "High school sports are acknowledged daily in our newspapers; this program gives the arts a platform to showcase the great talents of our thespians in Huntington."
