Huntington Changes Town Name To 'Hauntington'

The spooky name change was inspired by a letter addressed to the town supervisor.

Huntington is about to become the spookiest town on Halloween thanks to one young resident.

Angelica Dee Cunningham, age 7, wrote a letter to Huntington Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci asking for him to change Huntington's name to "Hauntington" on Halloween.

And it actually happened.

In a letter dated Aug. 26, Angelica wrote:

Dear Supervisor Lupinacci,
Hello! My name is Angelica Dee Cunningham. I am a student at Washington Primary, and I have lived in Huntington my whole life. One of the best things about Huntington is the way we celebrate Halloween. I love getting dressed up, going into town and trick-or-treating with my friends. I think that this October, Huntington should officially be called "Hauntington." This would be fun to say for me, my friends and all of the citizens of Huntington. Thank you for reading my letter.
Sincerely,
Angelica

“Angelica Dee Cunningham, a Huntington resident, student and avid trick-or-treater, wrote to my office and asked that we rename the Town ‘Hauntington’ for Halloween,” Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci, who sponsored the resolution to rename the Town. “The Town Board unanimously voted to start this new tradition -- I commend Angelica’s interest in local civics and I encourage all of our students to follow her lead!”
