Huntington Police Blotter: Man Bites Suffolk Officer In Assault

The officer needed medical attention after they were punched, bit and scratched at, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — These are recent arrests made in the Huntington area from April 4 through April 10.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Salvador Rivera, 23, of Yaphank, punched an officer in the face several times and bit and scratched the officer in order to avoid arrest around 12:05 a.m. April 9 on East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, police said. The officer needed medical attention, police said. Rivera was arrested and charged with second-degree assault: intentionally cause physical injury to officer and resisting arrest on April 9.
  • Terrence Smith, 38, of Huntington, intentionally prevented an officer from making an arrest, police said. Smith had two bench warrants, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault: intentionally cause physical injury to officer, resisting arrest, third-degree escape, second-degree obstruct governmental administration and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on April 7.
