Huntington Station Resident Completes Winter Olympics Run

Huntington Station resident Matt Mortensen and his partner finished tenth in the doubles luge competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, on Wednesday.

Matt Mortensen, 32, and Jayson Terdiman completed their two runs in a total time of 1 minute and 32.687 seconds, which was .990 seconds slower than the winning country, Germany. Full event results can be found here.

The other USA team that competed in the doubles luge placed eighth.

This placing was an improvement from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where Mortensen placed 14th in the doubles luge.

TIME featured Mortensen and Terdiman in a video prior to their competition and called them "America's best hope in doubles luge." Watch the video here.

Mortensen's Team USA bio says he comes from a family of nine and is a soldier and member of the Army World Class Athlete Program. His favorite place to race is Lake Placid and plays the guitar as a hobby.
