HUNTINGTON, NY — After a long, nearly 20-year wait, the new LIRR M9 train celebrated its maiden voyage on Wednesday morning.

The eight-car train made its debut leaving Huntington at 6:50 a.m. and arrived at Hunterspoint Avenue at 7:49 a.m.

Here are some photos of how it looks inside:

The LIRR said the M9 will make additional runs Wednesday evening: a 5:06 p.m. train from Penn Station is due in Hempstead at 5:57 p.m., followed by the 10:37 p.m. train from Penn Station, due in Babylon at 11:32 p.m.

The company also said the entire M9 fleet will consist of 202 cars, which will be rolled out between now and 2021.

"We hope you enjoy the new fleet, as well as the many new customer-focused amenities it brings," the LIRR tweeted.

Among those amenities: electrical outlets in every row of seats, slightly increased seat width, increased window tint, car number display (ex. Car 2 of 6), closed loop seat armrests and automatic push button doors to move between cars.

Of course, not everyone is pleased with the updates. You probably still want to avoid that 6-seater during rush hour.
