GREENLAWN, NY — The Greenlawn Memorial Day Parade is a go this year. The fire department has decided to host and partake in the parade and ceremonies based on recent guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and New York State Department of Health, it wrote on Facebook.

"We feel that our fallen service members are owed the utmost respect and our unwavering gratitude for making the supreme sacrifice in defense of our Great Nation, and that is why we choose to honor them at this time," the department posted.

The parade is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Monday with a new, abbreviated route. The parade will leave from the back of the fire department headquarters, at 23 Boulevard Ave., before heading south on Broadway to Memorial Park. Everyone is then invited to attend a brief wreath-laying ceremony, according to the department.
