'Snow Emergency' Declared for Town of Huntington
BREAKING: Residents are asked to stay off roads and park their cars off the streets.

As residents prepare for a winter storm, Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone declared an official snow emergency, effective 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
In addition, officials say all activities and programs scheduled at Town facilities are canceled.
- Public schools in the Huntington area are also canceled Thursday.
“All of the forecasts indicate that this storm will include a significant snowfall, with the snow falling at a considerable rate for a good part of the day Thursday,” Petrone said in a press release. “Residents should stay off the roads, and make sure to park their cars off the streets to facilitate plowing and access for emergency vehicles."

What a “snow emergency” means for Town of Huntington residents:
- Petrone may close roads, appropriate necessary equipment and make necessary purchases without following the usual procedures. These rules also apply to the Town Highway Department Town equipment and personnel to assist Highway Department Crews.
- Thursday trash collection is canceled. Commercial pickups are still scheduled for businesses in Huntington Village and Huntington Station that have evening curbside collection.
- UPDATE: Town Hall will be closed all day Thursday because of the storm.
- The Zoning Board of Appeals meeting and Parking Violations Court scheduled for Thursday evening are canceled.
- All activities at the Dix Hills Ice Rink are canceled.
- Parks Department programs at local schools and at Coindre Hall are canceled.
- All Youth Bureau programs are canceled.
