HUNTINGTON, NY — Threes Brewing, a Brooklyn-based craft brewery, has expanded into Huntington. The new outpost marks the first on Long Island and the fourth store overall.

The outpost opened at 20 Clinton Ave. on Dec. 31; near where CEO and co-founder Josh Stylman grew up in Melville.

Threes Brewing Huntington is temporarily focusing on to-go business, which includes walk-in and web-based pickup as well as delivery across Long Island. The outpost aims to open a 14-seat indoor and outdoor drinking space by spring. Brooklyn will remain the brewing space, though Threes Brewing beer will be routinely delivered to Huntington.

"The idea is that [Huntington] is both a shop as well as a small bar," Stylman told Patch. "It’s kind of like a hub-and-spoke model."

The expansion onto Long Island actually happened as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Stylman.

"In March, when everything shut down, we quickly realized that, first and most importantly, we wanted to make sure we had jobs for our team," Stylman said.

An e-commerce website was thrown together within a few days as bartenders became delivery drivers and servers became box-packers.

Threes Brewing saw a lot of orders from Long Island, according to Stylman. At first, the brewery shipped its products to the island. Then, the brewery realized it was more cost-efficient to deliver.

"For the last few months, we’ve been delivering, but running drivers from Brooklyn to Long Island every day is not particularly environmentally friendly or cost-efficient," Stylman said. "We said, ‘alright, this will be really interesting. Maybe we open a store. Maybe there’s enough demand.’ We started looking at spaces and found ourselves in the lovely town of Huntington. We’re thrilled to be here."

Threes Brewing sees its beer list as three broad pillars: lagers; hoppy American ales and India pale ales; and saisons.

"Beer is very context-dependent to give people different tastes, and we think there are different experiences," Stylman said. "Sometimes, you really want something that pairs well with dinner. Sometimes, you want to drink with a friend or watch a ballgame. And sometimes, you want to have a beer on the beach and have something a little lighter."

In addition to beers from Threes Brewing, the Huntington shop offers coffee from Ninth Street Espresso, wine, cider, hard seltzer, kombucha, snacks and lite bites.
