Tommy Tacos is a restaurant located in Huntington, New York that offers authentic street tacos and many more delicious dishes in a fun, fast and casual environment. Patch caught up with Thomas and Elisa Stein, co-owners of Tommy Tacos, to learn more about their budding business and mouthwatering tacos:

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?

Tom and Elisa: Our grand opening was July 31, 2020.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

Tom and Elisa: Tom has worked in restaurants since he was 13, initially employed by his father who was a general manager for several major hotel chains. Starting as a dishwasher and climbing quickly through the ranks, he is the true portrait of a self-made chef who understands every aspect of the industry. He has since worked under Michelin rated chefs and was ultimately hired by the TAO restaurant group to open an affiliate location in the Upper East Side.

After leaving the industry to pursue real estate for a few years, in 2019 he decided to return to his true passion, partnering with me (his wife) to create a fun and unique dining concept. Food and art are passions of mine as well, and it was a lot of fun painting the murals and coming up with ideas to create a cool vibe in the dining room. The minute you walk in you can tell you are not in your everyday taco shop.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Tom and Elisa: Quality food made with love.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Tom and Elisa: Customer service! We love talking to every person that comes in and helping them navigate through our menu.

Patch: How would you say your business distinguishes itself from the others?

Tom and Elisa: Even though we are just a small eat-in / takeout place, we aim to provide an elevated level of food and service that people will remember us by and set us apart from the rest.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever heard when it comes to success?

Tom and Elisa: “Whatever you want to do, if you want to be great at it, you have to love it and be able to make sacrifices for it.” — Maya Angelou

Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?

Tom and Elisa: At the moment, we are just focused on building our business and spreading the word that Tommy Tacos is the real deal.
