Walt Whitman Graduate Killed in North Carolina Crash

The 22-year-old worked as a television reporter in South Carolina.

Jordan Schuman, 22, a graduate of Walt Whitman High School, was killed Wednesday after she was reportedly involved in a three-car crash near Charlotte.

The South Carolina-based television reporter was driving through Waxhaw, NC, on her way to a friend’s house to spend Christmas when she collided with two other vehicles at 7 p.m., WNCN reports.

Although she is a Long Island native, Schuman served as a multimedia journalist at WPDE in the Florence/Myrtle Beach area.

WPDE wrote a memorable tribute to their lost colleague.

“Jordan had a spirit and light about her that is difficult to put into words,” WDPE wrote. “She was one of the most positive people we’ve ever known. She loved being a journalist.”

Schuman started her career in television in the summer of 2010 at the University of Miami’s pre-college program.

According to her obituary, when not working as a journalist, Schuman enjoyed listening to country music, grabbing a nap when she could get one, shopping for shoes far too often, and always a cup of coffee to start the day.

Schuman is survived by her loving family, parents Peri and Peter Schacknow, Brian Schuman and Patrice Golde, brother Justin, and grandmothers Lorraine and Roz. Jordan brought a light to others’ lives that will not be forgotten, her obituary says.
