Waterfront Festival In Huntington To Celebrate Boating Season

The event will be held as part of Huntington Safe Boating Week.

Event attendees can enjoy live music, chow down on some food, check out nautical-themed items and speak with stand up paddle boarding and wakeboarding experts.

The Nautical Market and Fair will be held at Mill Dam Park in Huntington from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The 2018 annual Boating Safety Week offers many useful and informative classes, lectures and fun events along with the outstanding Waterfront Festival which has increasingly become a popular way for the entire Long Island boating community to kick off the season," Jackie Martin, Executive Officer of the Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs, said in a press release. "It’s also a great venue for showcasing local boat dealers and equipment vendors, as well as displaying the works of local artists and craftspeople."

There will be:

  • Live music from King Wellington
  • A variety of food and wine
  • Beer from the Oyster Bay Brewing Company
  • Participation of boat dealers
  • Displays by marine equipment vendors
  • Fishing gear
  • Nautical home décor
  • Antiques,
  • The works of local artists and craftspeople
  • Attractions and amusements for children

“The Town of Huntington is excited to partner again with the Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs on Safe Boating Week and an exciting Waterfront Festival," Huntington Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said in a press release. "As a coastal Town we are committed to promoting boating safety, and I encourage all of our residents and visitors to stop by.”

Safe Boating Week kicks off Friday, May 19 and ends Friday May 25. The entire week will focus on safety in the water as boating season gets underway.

The week of events includes a free eight-hour New York State Boating Safety course, courtesy vessel safety inspections by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Power Squadron, as well as courses, lectures and seminars on a range of topics.

Safe Boating Week activities include:

Free NYS Safe Boating Course

  • Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Huntington Town Hall

  • 8 hours total to complete class for boating certificate

Courtesy Vessel Inspections

  • Saturday, May 19 at USCG Auxillary and US Power Squadron

Free CPR & AED Class

  • Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Huntington Community First Aid Squad, located at 2 Railroad St. in Huntington Station

  • Reservations are required. Proof of boat ownership (NYS registration or club membership card) is required to participate in the course. Class size is limited.

  • "Gwendoline Steers: Anatomy of a Disaster" Presented by Edward Carr, Director of Huntington Maritime Services, Historian and Author
  • Wednesday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at American Legion Hall, located at 1 Mill Dam Road in Huntington
  • Cash bar. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs, which represents 22 clubs with boating and waterfront interests, is again partnering with the Town of Huntington, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Power Squadron and other marine-related safety agencies to bring these events to life.
