Zaro's Cafe Reopens In Huntington Station With New Look And Feel

The Huntington Station Greek and Italian restaurant is open again after a renovation and a switch to counter service.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — Zaro's Cafe in Huntington Station is newly open after being closed for an overhaul. The Greek and Italian eatery on Jericho Turnpike has been open for 27 years but coronavirus spurred some changes to the restaurant.

Owner Edmund Zarou told Patch that he decided to switch from sit-down table service to a fast casual counter service concept with a smaller menu after the 50 percent capacity rules were too restrictive for his business to successfully implement.

"It affected us drastically. We were forced to change the way we operated," he said.

The family owned restaurant had a grand reopening Tuesday after being closed for three weeks of renovation. Zarou and his cousin Alex Solounias are the third generation of family members to own and operate the cafe since 1993.

"We want to thank all of our loyal customers for the support. We hope our new look is received favorably— we would not be here if it were not for you," Zarou wrote on the restaurant's Facebook page, an homage to his late father Charlie Zarou who wrote similar words ten years ago.
