1. Peggy Spellman Hoey remembers former Suffolk County Police Commissioner John Gallagher who died Saturday at age 83. He was a resident of Miller Place and served as police commissioner from 1997 to 2004. Gallagher graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy's National Executive Institute. (Patch)

2. Peggy Spellman Hoey also reports on how quick-thinking locals and police joined forces to save a 70-year-old man from drowning off Port Jefferson Harbor. Coram's Alan Goldberg fell and lost consciousness while anchoring a boat on Whitehall Beach Sunday afternoon. Several bystanders helped, including father and son pair Francis George and Karl George who began cardiopulmonary resuscitation while waiting for emergency services. (Patch)

3. Robert Brodsky details a shooting incident early Sunday morning outside Tommy's Place in Port Jefferson. Twenty-year-old Ethan Ladd of Port Jefferson Station was charged with two counts of felony assault for shooting two men. (Newsday)

  • There are some new Eagle Scouts in the area: From Troop 64, John DeLucia, Jacob Yonkes, Richard Engesser, and Charles Wolff were honored at St. Francis Cabrini Church Parish Center in Coram. From Shoreham's Troop 161, Brandon R. Dougherty, Jake R. Field, Sean P. Kelly, Brendan B. King, William F. King, Denis D. Lane, Kaden P. Lynch, and Matthew J. Yakaboski achieved the rank.   • Mt. Sinai Junior Joey Spallina won the James C. Metzger MVP Award for the championship boys lacrosse game where Mt. Sinai beat Manhasset to nab the LI Championship C title. (Patch)
