Celebrating New York Apple Crunch Day in Rocky Point

First graders sang apple-related songs, did a science experiment, read apple-themed books and worked on apple crafts.

From Syntax: Jennifer Meschi’s first-grade class at Frank Carasiti Elementary School in the Rocky Point School District had a fruitful celebration during New York Apple Crunch Day on Oct. 19.

Along with apple-related songs, a science experiment, reading apple-themed books and parent volunteers who worked on apple crafts with them, they were part of a large effort to raise awareness for local farmers. The students joined thousands of New York residents in taking a bite out of an apple at lunchtime for the New York food and farm industries.

“We were registered participants to help support the cause of bringing more access to fresh fruits and vegetables into our communities,” said Meschi. “We wanted to be a part of this initiative so people understand the importance of eating healthy foods and supporting our farmers.”
