Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island:

A low pressure system passing through from Tuesday into early Wednesday has the potential to produce very heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and severe thunderstorms with damaging winds in or near the area. While the timing is most likely to be during Tuesday afternoon and night, the exact track and intensity of this system, and therefore the areas most likely to be impacted, are still in
question.

"The large area of high pressure keeping much of the Northeast dry and comfortable this weekend will slowly weaken and move out to sea during the early part of this week," AccuWeather Meteorologist Mary Gilbert says.

The full forecast:

Sunday Night- Clear, with a low around 62. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Monday- Sunny, with a high near 83. West wind 6 to 11 mph.

Monday Night- A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

Tuesday- Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 80. Southwest wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night- Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 67. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82.

Wednesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Thursday- Partly sunny, with a high near 81.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 65.
