The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for Long Island:
"Low pressure will bring a wintry mix tonight. A light accumulation of snow is possible, along with some ice which could result in difficult travel conditions. The precipitation should be plain rain by the morning commute."

Less than an inch of snow and sleet is expected to accumulate on the island early Tuesday, but there is a "reasonable worst case scenario" of 2-3 inches of snow, the weather service says.
There is also a chance of some freezing rain between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday across northern Long Island, but temperatures should rise above freezing during the morning commute.

Monday Night- Snow and sleet likely before 1am, then rain, snow, and sleet between 1am and 4am, then rain and sleet after 4am. Low around 33. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Light and variable wind becoming east 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Tuesday- Rain. High near 40. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night- Rain likely, mainly before 7pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 28. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. North wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Wednesday- A 20 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 38. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. West wind 11 to 15 mph.
Wednesday Night- A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.
