Heat Advisory Issued For Suffolk County

A heat advisory has been issued for Suffolk County for Monday and Tuesday.

The advisory issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect from noon Monday until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s on both days but with the humidity factored in, the heat index will climb to near 100 degrees.

The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure, the NWS says.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency. In cases of heat stroke, call 911.

Sunday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 75. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Monday- Sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 98. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph.

Monday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 76. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light.

Tuesday- A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 97. Southwest wind 8 to 15 mph.

Tuesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 88.

Wednesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74.
